Out With the Old + in With the New

Okay, I have always wanted to do a comparison of my old makeup routine to my new one and I finally gave it a shot! The results were even better than I had expected and I found myself falling in love with Maskcara all over again! I mean, just check out this before and after...

OLD VS NEW PIN.png

Now, the difference isn't super drastic because I was highlighting and contouring already with my old routine, BUT it took a lot of different products and lots of powders.

In the photo on the right are the products I use every single day. It's all in one compact so I don't need to dig through my makeup bag anymore. Not to mention it's so pretty to look at!!! *all the heart eyes emoji* My brushes are high quality, I don't lose any bristles on my face while applying. They're all double sided and double functional. Everything in this photo is a professional, high quality product that has been thoughtfully designed by an experienced makeup artist. It hydrates my skin, doesn't make me break out, blends effortlessly and looks natural on my skin! Plus, my setting spray has 30 SPF which was a step my previous routine was missing. My husband couldn't believe the difference when I made the switch! I have a natural, dewy glow at all times, and I wouldn't want it any other way! This definitely affirmed my love for these products and I don't ever plan on going back to my old routine!!

The picture to the left is all the products I used to use before I started using Maskcara, along with a collection of super cheap makeup brushes I had already thrown in the trash. Haha! Here's the thing. These products are all drugstore, cheap products. For the most part they were working for me, but I didn't realize how terrible these foundations and powders were for my dry skin. The  foundation was too orange for my skin and the products were near impossible to blend once they were applied to my face. It made my skin look dull instead of bright and awake. My face immediately felt tight after I finished applying everything. These products were the cheapest things on the market, and the way it wore throughout the day made that obvious. I just wish I would have switched over completely years and years ago.

I mean, just look at the side by side!! This makeup was a total game changer in my mom routine.

Life Lately || May
Life Lately || May

Life has been so crazy this month! I cannot even believe how much has happened. So this post will be a little different than usual. It's basically a word vomit of everything that's happened this month. On the 7th we celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary! It's crazy how much has happened in our relationship in those years. We reminisced and had a very fun night together.

The following Monday, Matthew called me from work. He had something important to tell me and assured me that it was not a joke. Prosper was letting their whole devision go. Hundreds of people would no longer have jobs, including my husband.

Months prior to this, Matthew had been feeling discontent with his current position at Prosper and started looking for other job opportunities. At the time he didn't really understand why he felt this way, but now we know it was the spirit prompting him to prepare for this shocking news.

He had two promising interviews with Alliance Health in South Jordan before this happened, and we both felt the final interview would entail him obtaining work with them. Prosper would continue to pay him as if he were a regular employee until July 5th or he found new employment. So Matthew has been home for three weeks, while being paid his normal salary, and will receive one months severance after getting a new job. (Hence the reason we decided to take a spontaneous vacation to Cali/Disneyland last week. Because, why not?!)

After the final interview with Alliance, and some counter negotiation, Matthew accepted an offer to work for them! We both felt that commuting was no longer an option and needed to start looking more seriously for homes in that area. We looked all day for two days, and found a town home in Herriman that we LOVED! So we made an offer.

That meant we needed to sell our house, and fast! We listed it the following Thursday. We had 4 showings on Friday and a full price offer that night, within 24 hours. We accepted that offer on Saturday and we've been hoping everything follows through ever since. We're waiting on the appraisal now, and once we hear back about that we'll really be doing this. The closing date is June 16th. We'll be handing over the keys from our first home, and moving to a brand new one in a place we know hardly anything about.

It's exciting, and completely terrifying at the same time. I know the Lord's hand is in our lives because we have been guided to prepare for this change and things are smoothly falling into place. I know that whatever ends up happening with our home situation will be the right thing for our family at this time. That knowledge helps me feel less afraid to leave the comfort that Layton has been for us.

I don't know if our parents will ever forgive us for moving one hour away, but I'm so grateful they are saddened by the distance growing between us. It shows how much they care for us and our boys. They have been such an amazing support to us, and it'll be hard to leave them. That spontaneous lunches and shopping trips with my mom won't be happening. Turner won't be able to stop by Grammy and Papa's randomly to play. Date nights will be more sparse without Auntie Autumn close by.  We'll be leaving a bunch of wonderful neighbors and friends we've grown to love. It makes me so sad to think of it at all.

Leaving comfort is really hard for me. Making new friends is terrifying. Learning how to navigate around a new place is scary. It's the reason I didn't go away to college or move out of my parent's house before I got married. This will be one of the hardest change I've experienced in my life thus far. That probably sounds so stupid to some people, but it's true!

That's also why I know it will help me grow in the biggest way as well. It will push me out of my comfort zone completely. I'm so grateful I don't have to do it alone. I'll be with my people. My husband and my two beautiful boys. And I'll have my Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, to rely on through all of it.

New Year's "Revelations"
New Year's Revelations || A Dash of Salter || change is good, ocean, peace, inspiration

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted on the good old blog. Between the holidays and planning for Turner’s birthday party I’ve been swamped! In that time I also did a lot of contemplating about my goals for this year. I want to share with you some of my New Year’s “revelations.”

I’ve always struggled with doubts in my abilities to succeed. A lot of my life has been spent avoiding risk so I could avoid what I believed to be inevitable failure.  I’m grateful for the loved ones in my life who push me to take risks because without them I would have a very unaccomplished life.

Even now, my husband is constantly trying to persuade me of my talents and abilities. Until these last couple of weeks, I would say his attempts have been in vain. I’m starting to feel a change within myself. I’m starting to recognize my strengths and accept them. I’m starting to realize I’ll never succeed unless I believe in my own talents and abilities. Very soon I’m going to be taking a few risks and opening myself up to vulnerability.  For the first time I’m excited about what that will help me become.

I also fasted and prayed about some personal questions and received inspiration to study my scriptures on a daily basis. I have been reading the Book of Mormon every day this week and writing my thoughts in a journal. I cannot believe the amount of inspiration and insight I’ve already received. I know as I continue this habit throughout the year, it will be such a blessing in my life.

I still have a lot to improve on, but I’m excited about the few changes I’ve felt impressed to make in my daily life. I decided instead of calling them resolutions, to call them revelations. That’s exactly what they are. Change can be negative to some and exciting to others. And I’m happy to say I’m excited about the changes being made in me.

What are some goals you’ve been inspired to set this year?

p.s. I gave the blog a makeover. Did you notice? ;) I wanted to give it a little modern touch. What do you think?

Awkward + Awesome
Awkward + Awesome || A Dash of Salter

I've been having some major writers block lately, and so I decided to try to post something new! I was browsing post ideas on Pinterest and came across the idea to tell the awkward and awesome things that have happened to you over the last week. So let's start with everyone's favorite part, all things AWKWARD and EMBARRASSING.

AWKWARD:

  • When Matthew introduced me to a new couple at church. I was walking a couple feet behind and didn't know what to say, so I didn't say anything. I swear, sometimes I'm the most socially awkward person in the world. Total palm to forehead moment.

  • On Tuesday my neighbor rang our doorbell, and I had to answer it while still in my sweats, no makeup on and some rad bed head. It was 12:30 pm.

  • Forgetting and realizing over and over again that my washer is broken. It won't drain or anything and I realized on Wednesday that I never took the soaked towels out of it. It had been a week. So I had to go to my parents house with a super heavy basket of wet, smelly towels. Those loads should last us until the weekend, hopefully.

  • That awkward moment that you're doing a hair tutorial video and you keep dropping things on the ground. Haha! Then, to top it all off, when you try to download it onto the computer it says the file format is incorrect and so it won't download. At least the other one I made was successful! (Hair tutorial from the style in this post coming next week!)

AWESOME:

  • I rode an ELEPHANT at the Davis County Fair! I rode in the front and its ears kept rubbing against my legs. It tickled so bad! I had a perma-grin the rest of the night!! Dreams do come true guys. Picture evidence at the bottom of this post.
  • I cleaned the entire house before nap time a couple times this week. That's a pretty big deal, trust me.

  • Matthew got a new job with an awesome company. The stress level should decrease, benefits will increase, environment will be improved, and he'll be gaining lots of experience for positions in the future. Not to mention, there is a lot of potential for growth within the company. His ambition never ceases to amaze me and I'm pretty convinced that he can do anything he sets his mind to.

  • Turner taught himself how to blow raspberries on his arm and make fart sounds. It seriously made my day. I was laughing SO HARD!

  • Turner and I watched a Disney movie every day this week. It was awesome because he loved all of them! Matthew was never really into Disney movies because for a long time they didn't own a TV. I however, lived on Disney growing up. I'm a girl so it might have been a little different, but still! I'm so glad Turner loves it as much as I do!
