Birthday SWAG || A Dash of Salter

I love my birthday. The biggest reason being my husband. He spoils me, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it. In reality, I love it wayyyy too much. He always takes the day off and makes it completely about me. He makes me breakfast, takes care of Turner, takes me out to eat and gives me the best presents.

This year Matthew scheduled a morning massage for me. My first massage ever, actually. From 11-12 I was given a full body massage and it was so relaxing. I came out of there feeling like a completely new woman. While I was away, he installed a brand new bluetooth stereo system in my car. It automatically syncs with my phone when I get in the car and starts playing my Spotify playlist right where it left off. BIG DEAL, PEOPLE. I can ask Siri something and answer phone calls with the push of a button! I didn't realize how much I would love it. It's the best!!

We went to lunch at Cutler's, a local sandwich/soup/cookie shop that I used to work at when we started dating. The food is delicious and it's family owned by some of the best people I know! If you're ever in the Layton area, you have to try one of their phenomenal cookies. The glazed sugar, semi-sweet chocolate chip and lemon melt-away are my favorites.

My wonderful in laws agreed to watch Turner while we go out to dinner, just the two of us. I am so grateful for the quality time we get together, because it doesn't happen nearly as often as I would like. Matthew is my everything, and I love to focus on strengthening our relationship even more.

We had dinner at Red Robin (YUM) and they gave me a free Oreo milkshake because it was my birthday. (DOUBLE YUM) Then we walked around the mall and talked about our goals and milestones this year. We'll be having another child in April and celebrating our 5 year anniversary in May! We have a lot of things we want to do before then. I have a feeling my 25th year is going to be the best one yet!

When we found out I was pregnant with a little boy, Matthew set this quote as his iPhone wallpaper. I have always admired his self awareness. He is constantly setting goals to challenge and better himself. I never imagined he could be a better man than when I married him because I've always held him in the highest regard. He is continually growing into a better person and I am starting to wonder if I can keep up with him!

My husband is one of the most hardworking people I know. He would go to the moon and back for us if he knew it would give us a brighter future. He is imperfect and makes mistakes, but is quick to correct them. That's what makes him perfect for me, because I'm imperfect too. Together we are striving to be the best versions of ourselves, and teach our children to do the same. Our strengths are complimentary. It's been so great to see him have an expanding role in Turner's childhood. The more independent Turner becomes, the more I find myself losing my patience, while Matthew's patience only continues to grow. He would probably disagree with that observation, but it's true! I am so grateful that Turner has his example to look up to.

I also believe that part of the reason Matthew is so amazing is because he has a wonderful father to look up to. By example his father raised a man who is hardworking, faithful, logical, sensitive, humorous, thoughtful, generous, and loving. Glen is all of those things, and I see those qualities in Matthew because of him. Not to mention, he is the sweetest Papa to Turner and I have loved watching that relationship grow! I couldn't thank him enough for loving Matthew, Turner, and I. I truly feel loved and blessed to have his example in our lives.

I couldn't do this tribute without talking about my own dad. Growing up I was kind of a daddy's girl. I would race to the door when he got home and climb on his lap when he would sit at the table. He has taught me a lot through his example alone. I have learned and gained a testimony of the gospel through his faithfulness in family home evenings and family prayer. He has helped me to discern answers to my prayers and inspiration from the Holy Ghost. I gained a love for music and dancing when I would wake up on Saturday mornings to him jamming out to Motown hits while making pancakes and eggs. He would often take me aside and give me inspired guidance that always ended with a warm embrace and the phrase "I love you." I knew I was precious to him and I know I still am. I will always be grateful for the things he has taught me, and even more grateful for the way he has shown me to live a full and happy life.

So if you're a father, think about that someone who may be watching and following your example. Remember that you make a difference in the lives of those around you. What you do MATTERS. Keep up the good work, guys! And have a very HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

This weekend was so fun, but exhausting! Family came to town to celebrate Peter and Morgan's big day. We stayed up late prepping, talking and enjoying our time together. Saturday morning was gorgeous and the perfect day for a wedding. The ceremony was held in a chapel at This is be Place Heritage Park and it was simply beautiful. One thing I wasn't expecting was tears streaming down my face when I saw Morgan in her dress when she walked down the isle. They are so perfect for each other, and I'm so happy for them to experience the joys that come from marriage.

I didn't capture many photos, but I'm going to share the gems that I happened to get. I just love weddings! I love seeing old friends, being reminded of my wedding day and dancing. I can never get enough of the dancing. Matthew asked me to dance because he knows how much of a romantic I am. It was such a good reminder of the love we have for each other and how much closer we've become since the day we were married. He means more to me now than he did on that day, which I never thought would be possible. We have been through so much together. We're parents now! I wouldn't choose to go through this life with anyone else. He was made for me. I'm so grateful for the little things he does to make me feel special. I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Just a side note, Turner and I went to the park to play outside before the reception and it started raining the fattest drops of rain I have ever seen! Turner couldn't stop splashing in all of the puddles. I didn't get any pictures of the reception unfortunately. I was too busy stuffing my face with cake and dancing way too much. It was simple and beautiful. I couldn't be happier for Peter and Morgan!!!

Father's Day Gift Ideas
Father's Day Gift Ideas || A Dash of Salter

I don't know about you, but I love gift guides. That's why I decided to do one of my own, for the first time ever! Father's Day will be here before you know it. Anyone else feel like holidays and birthdays can be like a stealthy assassin? One minute you're living your daily life and the next you're running around trying to find that last minute gift so you don't look like you forgot. The point is, looking online now will give you plenty of time to have it shipped before the day actually arrives.

Many gifts on this list are classics, and others are unique alternatives. I tried to find as many items on sale as possible, because holiday gifts can add up! Especially if you have multiple father's to give to. (I have 4. My husband, dad, father in law, and grandpa.) Here are some of my favorite items to give and some I'm thinking of gifting this year! I've linked where to find these items in the slideshow below! Hover over the image for some basic information and click it to find out where to buy it!

What do you think? Will you buy him a classic gift or a unique alternative? What are some of your favorite Father's Day gifts?
