Top 10 Makeup Favorites

Surprisingly, I’ve NEVER done a makeup favorites roundup! I’ve had quite a few of you asking for all my go to makeup products, and here it is! For me makeup needs to be effortless and look likewise. Over the past year I’ve been REALLY HAPPY with my makeup routine! It’s simple, convenient, and makes me feel like my best self! Here are the top 10 products I now can’t live without!

Makeup Favorites.png

1. Maskcara Beauty IIID Foundation

I’ve been using this makeup for 3 years now, and I’m more obsessed with it than ever! It’s one of the reasons I signed up to be an artist, but let me tell you WHY I love it so much. From the first time I saw Cara, the creator, doing before and afters of this product I knew it was something I had to try. It just brought out this natural beauty and light in everyone she put it on!!

I convinced my husband to buy it for me the Christmas of 2015. I had been sick for months with the pregnancy of our second son to the point where I had lost myself. To finally feel okay enough to put makeup on and take that time for myself sparked a renewed sense of energy and confidence in me. It was exactly what I needed! To feel beautiful in my own skin. It actually inspired me to start blogging again, and I did this review on her product. The product and my skills have come a LONG way since then, but you can still see the confidence it gave me!!!

Now I get to share that same feeling with other women. I get to watch them light up as they see themselves shining through in that after photo. They realize their own beauty! Because it just enhances your natural features, it’s like you know you’re even more beautiful when you take it off. It’s fast, easy and convenient for everyday use - for a stay at home mom like me and so many other women who live full and bold lives! I’ve never loved my makeup routine more than I do right now!! (View my old routine vs new routine here) If you’re looking to change your foundation, you can learn your color match here and get your own customized palette!

2. e.l.f. Brow Pencil

This pencil is the perfect color (Neutral Brown) and makes brows a cinch! I don’t have to dip into a product over and over again, I just twist up and flick on those brows until I’ve achieved the look I want! For $2 per pencil, it really can’t be beat. I am in the market for a brow pen, but I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t dry out quickly.

3. Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara

This is the ONLY mascara that has kept my lashes curled all day! It doesn’t smudge onto my cream makeup and I don’t get crumbled maskcara all over my face throughout the day. I’m obsessed with the volume and length they gave without looking to chunky or unnatural. I don’t know if I’ll ever use another mascara again.

4. Physician’s Formula CC Cream

This is the CC Cream I used before I started using mascara and while the tones don’t always match the current color of my skin, I still love it for a minimal makeup day! It has 30 SPF so I can just apply to my face, add a pop of blush and mascara and I’m good to go! I use it mostly for days I’ll be swimming or out in the sun for a long period of time. On a day to day basis I still use my IIID Foundation, but this is something I truly love having in my arsenal.

5. Maskcara Beauty Stay Setting Spray

I was SO skeptical of setting sprays before I tried the Stay Spray by Maskcara Beauty. It’s so refreshing and smells like coconuts, but most importantly it really does help my makeup last all day long! I love the way it helps the makeup set into my skin and keeps that dewy glow that I live for! Definitely can’t live without it now.

6. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Okay, this isn’t necessarily makeup but it’s been the BIGGEST game changer for my lips! I used to hate wearing lip color because everything would crack and collect on my chronically dry lips. Thanks to this beautiful product, my lips have never been more soft, smooth and lucious! I am OBSESSED.

7. Maybelline Matte Ink

I was not a fan when I bought my first color, but after trying several others it really is the best longwear matte lipstick you can get for the price! It really does wear all day! It doesn’t burn or tingle and glides on really smooth. I think the deeper colors are my favorite so far.

8. Maskcara Beauty Makeup Brushes

Once again, I’d never really used high quality makeup brushes to apply my makeup until I started using Maskcara and ever since then I’ve been hooked. They are the highest quality, softest, most beautiful brushes I’ve ever used. It makes me cringe a little that I used to use my hands and those cheap tiny brushes that come with your drugstore makeup. No wonder I was never happy about my makeup routine! Quality really does make a difference, and these brushes are going to last me a lifetime!

9. Wet n Wild Photofocus Eyeshadow Primer

This is a fairly new adventure, but I finally did some research on how to make my eyeshadow stay on all day and I found raving reviews on this one by wet n wild. It’s only $5 and so I had to give it a try. It’s been amazing! I can’t believe how big of a difference it really makes to have an eyeshadow primer!! If you’re looking for one, definitely give this one a try.

10. Maskcara Beauty eyeshadows

Of course I had to couple the primer with the Maskcara eyeshadows. Can you tell I’m a totally Maskcara brand junkie? Hahaha! These eyeshadows are so creamy, buildable, and each tin has SO MUCH PRODUCT! I love mixing and matching all of the colors we have available, and the great news is we’re getting a LOT of new ones super soon! Quality eyeshadows can really take a makeup look to the next level and I’m so excited to get my hands on all the new ones!

That’s a wrap, folks!! What are your tried and true makeup faves? Leave them in the comments and I’d love to try them! I hope you have an amazing weekend!

Do I Have a Story Worth Telling?

Do I Have a Story Worth Telling? | A Dash of Salter | Motherhood, Lifestyle, Beauty Blogger |

For a while now I've been trying to write more about my life on the blog, but I get so hung up on if I have something valuable to share. I ask myself questions constantly. What about my life could someone relate to or find value in? Could I help uplift someone by sharing my experiences or are they not _______ enough?

The fact is I've lived a very privileged and blessed life. I grew up in a loving home with two parents who never got divorced. I have a strong relationship with all of my siblings. I've never broken a bone or suffered a severe injury. I've never been personally effected by cancer, miscarriage, or loss of a family member. I have never had strong financial burdens (thanks parents and husband) and I don't feel like I've had a lot of trials placed in my life.

The trials and struggles I have considered as such seem so insignificant in comparison to the problems of many others. How can I even complain and struggle with something trivial when so many others have it much harder and worse than I do?

Yesterday I was watching Jenna's Insta Stories and she said something that really struck a chord with me. "Gratitude and struggle can coexist." You can go through something that is hard and still feel gratitude. My struggles may seem insignificant to others, but to me they are still hard! That doesn't mean I'm ungrateful, I am constantly in awe of how truly blessed I am, it just means my hard is different than theirs.

I have a strong belief in God, and I know that he doesn't give us trials we can't overcome. For me right now, my biggest struggle is trying to manage my time and teach my children. Having two toddlers and trying to stay on top of housekeeping, self care, budgeting, planning and my business is completely overwhelming most days. I want to be able to do it all, but managing it all is so hard when I've got two little boys who need me 24/7. I am SO GRATEFUL to be a mother, especially to their sweet spirits, but that doesn't make it easy.

Here I am. Showing up to give it my best shot! I'm a 27 year old mom with two crazy boys who extract all of my energy from me and I love them endlessly. I cherish the time I get with my husband, but I don't always show it. I have an unhealthy relationship with sugar cookies in every form and I'm okay with that. I am enough.

Every time I'm vulnerable about my struggles and my life I hear from someone saying, me too. I know I'm not alone, but it's so easy to isolate ourselves. All of us have different life experiences and struggle in our own ways, but we have more in common than we realize.

My story might not be heart wrenching or ground breaking, but it is still worth telling. I want to remember all of it. The sweet moments and the things I had to overcome. My story is what makes me who I am. So I'm going to keep sharing it.

Life Lately || July
Life Lately || July || ADOS || Cheree Salter, styling, wearing, eating, watching, loving, wanting

1. STYLING:

Twisty updos to get my hair off of my neck and out of my face. Herriman is a pretty windy place, so I find myself pulling these long locks of mine up and out of the way 90% of the time. It's fun to finally be able to play around with styles like this on my own head of hair.

2. WEARING:

Smiles and sunscreen! I've been making an effort to get outside more and it's doing Turner and I a lot of good. Also, loose shirts and skirts to keep cool in the summer heat.

3. EATING:

Teriyaki Turkey Lettuce Wraps. YUM! If you're like me and can't live without those carbs, try it over steamed rice. Equally delicious.

4. WATCHING:

Lark Rise to Candleford is a BBC series on Hulu. Matthew and I are OBSESSED with BBC's. We just finished the first season. It's clean and we love it so far!

5. LOVING:

Making our house a home. I'm trying to be very conscious of what brings me joy and simplifying the clutter. Less is definitely more in the decor department for me these days.

6. WANTING:

To stop time with this sweet baby boy! He is growing so fast, I can't believe it! He's 3 months old now, and 16 lbs. He's super chunky and that's just how we like 'em around here! I don't want to miss a thing, so I am taking our days one at a time and trying to cherish each snuggly baby moment.

I know I've been MIA on the blog lately because of all of the things that come with a move, but I hope you all have had as lovely of a July as I have! It's been bittersweet and I'm learning a lot about myself through all of the change.

Life Lately || April
Life Lately || April || ADOS || styling, wearing, eating, watching, announcing, loving

1. STYLING:

This twisted updo paired with this gorgeous hairpiece my sister in law, Emily, gave me as a push present. Isn't it fabulous? It's really making me want more hair accessories...like this one, and this one

2. WEARING:

My Gilligan O'Malley knit robe and fuzzy socks, all day, every day. Because changing your clothes 10 times a day isn't fun. The amount of bodily fluids that get all over you from nursing a newborn is unreal. Plus, postpartum recovery in no joke, people. Comfort and ease are all the rage around here right now.

3. EATING:

I've been craving apples with peanut butter on the daily. I thought my pregnancy appetite was bad, but I forgot how nursing gives me the munchies 24/7. At least my craving is healthy and packed with protein, right?

4. WATCHING:

We've been watching Wreck It Ralph at least 3 times a week. It's Turner's new favorite, and the video game nerd in me can't complain. I love it!

5. ADJUSTING:

It's been quite the adjustment to manage two kiddos at home on my own. At least 3 times a day both of my boys are crying because I can't give them what they want/need. Luckily it doesn't last very long, but it's still taken quite a toll on my stress and anxiety levels. The lack of consistent sleep doesn't help either. Still, I think we're getting the hang of it. I just have to reassure myself that I'm doing the very best that I can.

6. LOVING:

I am loving this new precious little boy. So so much. I snapped some newborn shots of him and I'm obsessed. Stay tuned for those photos next month. I can't believe he is almost 3 weeks old already! It's such a blessing to have him home and healthy. He's already gained a pound and a half! We all can't seem to get enough of him around here.

I hope you all had a lovely April! Just so you know, I've got my birth story, Grey's newborns and some other fun posts in the works! Subscribe to my email list, in the sidebar or below, so you don't miss them!

Favorite General Conference Quotes || Free Printables

It was so nice to unplug and be inspired throughout general conference this last weekend. It was just what my soul needed. These five quotes are just a few of the things the general authorities shared that touched my heart.

I was especially grateful for the short and simple words spoken by the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Thomas S. Monson during the Sunday Morning session. It was a message of encouragement to always choose the right. If you missed any of the sessions or are interested in watching these inspiring messages, you can view them all on LDS.org

I love that through the spirit the words of the prophets, apostles and church leaders can speak right to our hearts in a very individual and personal way. What's amazing to me is that so many can be touched by the exact same phrase, but still get something completely different from it.

I'm so grateful for my faith and the comfort it gives me on a daily basis. It's such a deep rooted part of my life and I hope it stays that way forever. I know that my belief in God and my Savior has blessed my life as I strive to be my best self.

I hope that this blog helps others feel happy and inspired on a regular basis. That it encourages others to keep trying to be their best selves, in whatever way they think that is achieved. Regardless of faith, background, or differences. I hope that it encourages others to live what they believe and not be ashamed of it. If it brings you joy, share it with others! That's what I'll be trying to do my whole life long.

Now, here are the links to download each of my 8x10 printables. I hope you'll print them out, hang them up, and feel inspired all year long! And if you don't want to ever miss my other design freebies or posts, subscribe to my email list as well!
